Ces tapis de yoga volant ne sont ils pas adorable? Leurs dessins ne sont pas uniquement magnifiques mais aussi aident avec l’alignement des postures de yoga. Je crois je dois commander le modèle traditionnel persique en bleu et rouge tout de suite. Namaste!

Marseille Scooter City

Marseille ist eine Stadt voller Scooters. Ich bin ein großer Fahrradfreund, habe mich aber in dem sehr hügeligen Marseille, dass manchmal sogar französisches San Francisco genannt wird, dazu hinreißen lassen, mir einen Scooter zuzulegen.

Marseille est une ville pleine de scooters. Je suis une grande fan du vélo mais Marseille est une cité très vallonée et parfois nommée La San Francisco de la France. Donc j’ai abandoné et j’ai acheté un petit scooter.

Marseille is a city full of scooters. I am a huge fan of bicycles, however, given that Marseille is very hilly and sometimes even referred to as French San Francisco I gave in and bought a little scooter.

Auf diesen Fotos sieht man einige “bescheidene” Hügel von Marseille (von Notre Dame de la Garde und von meinem morgendlichen Schwimmen aus gesehen). Die Hügel heißen “Le Roucas Blanc” und “Bompard” und sind sehr reiche Wohngegenden.

Ici vous pouvez voir quelques modestes collines de Marseille (vues de Notre Dame de la Garde et de mon bain matinal). Ce collines sont nommées “Le Roucas Blanc” et “Bompard”. Ce sont des endroits residentiels très huppés.

Here you can see some of Marseille’s “humble” hills (seen from Notre Dame de la Garde and from my morning swim). These hills are named “Le Roucas Blanc” and “Bompard” and are very rich residential areas.

Einen Scooter zu fahren, kann am Anfang etwas furchteinflößend sein, aber sobald man das Verkehrskonzept in Marseille verstanden hat (kurz gesagt, jeder macht was er will) ist ein Scooter ein super Fortbewegungsmittel. Diese Vespa habe ich in Les Goudes gesehen, dem südlichen Ende Marseilles und Eingangstor zu den Calanques sowie einem guten Scooter Ausflugsziel.

Conduire un scooter peut être angoissant au début mais une fois que vous avez compris le concept du traffic à Marseille (principalement tout le monde fait n’importe quoi) c’est un bon moyen de se deplacer. J’ai vu cette vespa aux Goudes qui limite Marseille au Sud et est une porte d’entrée vers les Calanques. Une grande destination à rejoindre en scooter.

Riding a scooter can be a bit scary at first but once you understood the concept of traffic in Marseille (basically everybody does whatever they want) its a great means of transportation. I spotted this Vespa in Les Goudes the very southern end of Marseille and gateway to the Calanques and a great destination to go to on scooter.

Ich habe ein etwas häßliches Modell gekauft, denn die schönen Vespas werden vom Fleck weg geklaut (die Versicherungspremien sind in Marseille die höchsten in ganz Frankreich). Ich bin auch die Einzige, mit einem integralen Motorradhelm und Handschuhen, sowie die Einzige die den Blinker benutzt. Trotzdem geht’s in “Alle Richtungen”!

Was sind Eure Erfahrungen mit Scootern? Würdet ihr einen fahren? Ich freue mich von Euch zu hören…

Moi j’ai acheté un scooter un peu pourri car les vespas sont souvent volées (les prix de l’assurance à Marseille sont le plus haut de toutte la France). Je suis aussi la seule qui ne grille pas les feux rouge, porte un casque intégral, des gants et qui utilise les clignotants. Mais quand même je peux aller dans “Toutes Directions”!

Quelle est votre experience en scooter? Aimeriez vous en conduire un? J’aimerais savoir….

I bought a slightly ugly scooter as the nice Vespa’s are so often stolen (insurance premiums are the highest in all of France!). I am also the only one who is not ignoring red traffic lights, wearing a fully integral helment + gloves and making use of that indicator. Nevertheless “all directions” are possible!

French Lifestyle Essentials – “L’APÉRO”

Du bist zu einem Apéro eingeladen und hast nur eine vage Idee was Dich erwartet? Im Internet wird der Begriff oft als ein vor dem Abendessen stattfindender Aperitif beschrieben, bei dem auch Kleinigkeiten zu Essen gereicht werden. Das stimmt zwar, wird diesem Highlight französischer Lebensart aber nicht ganz gerecht.

Vous êtes invites à prendre un apéro et vous n’avez qu’une vague idée de ce qui vous attends? Internet explique le terme apéro comme boire des verres et manger des petites choses avant le dîner. Ce qui est à peu prés correct. Mais je ne pense pas que cette traduction rende justice à cette fameuse coutume française.

You are invited to an “apéro” and you have only a vague idea what to expect? The internet translates the term as “pre-dinner drinks and nibbles” which is kind of right but I don’t think that this translation does justice to this highlight of French lifestyle.

Ein Apéro kann so ziemlich alles sein, von after-work drinks, über ein Flasche Wein und ein Picknick am Strand bis zu einer Einladung nach Hause. Anders ausgedrückt, zwischen 17 und 21 Uhr ergreifen die Franzosen (jede) die Gelegenheit für ein informelles get together und ein paar Drinks.

Un apéro peut être différentes choses, comme boire un verre après le travail, partager une bouteille de vin lors d’un piquenique sur la plage ou être invité chez quelqu’un. En d’autres mots entre 17 heures et 21 heures les français trouvent n’importe quelles occasions pour boire des verres lors d’ une rencontre informelle.

An Apéro can be anything from a couple of after work drinks, to a bottle of wine and a picnic shared on the beach, or an invitation to someone’s home. In other words between 5 and 9 pm the French will raise the (any) occasion for an informal social get together and some drinks.

Wenn Du von Freunden zu einem Apéro nach Hause eingeladen wirst, kann es sich dabei um einen Apéro Dinatoire handeln, d.h. Du wirst den Apéro nicht hungrig verlassen. Höchstwahrscheinlich wird eine Menge kleiner Köstlichkeiten serviert. Ich bin ein großer Fan dieses französischen Twists einer Einladung zum Abendessen. Der Gastgeber muss nicht den ganzen Tag in der Küche verbringen und der Abend steht unter dem Stern die Zeit zusammen zu genießen.

Si vous êtes invités chez un ami pour un apéro cela peut tourner en un apéro dinatoire, ce qui veut dire que vous ne partirez pas affamé. La plupart de temps on vous servira beaucoup de petits canapés. J’aime cette astuce française qui tourne à l’invitation à dîner car l’hôte ne passe pas tout son temps dans la cuisine et nous pouvons profiter pleinement de bons moments tous ensemble.

If you are invited to a friends house for an “apéro” this might actually turn into an “apéro dinatoire” meaning that you will not leave hungry. Most likely you will be served a lot of small delicious bites. I love this French twist to an dinner invitation as the host does not have to spend his whole day in the kitchen and the evening is more about enjoying some time together.

Letzen Sonntag haben wir uns auf den Weg gemacht, die für Südfrankreich typischen Lavendelfelder zu bewundern.

Ce dernier dimanche on a pris la route pour profiter des champs de lavande emblématiques du Sud de la France.

Last Sunday we hit the road to enjoy the lavender fields iconic for the South of France.

Lila und blaue Lavendelfelder soweit das Auge reicht und weil der Lavendel gerade geerntet wurde, lag ein süßer reiner Duft in der Luft.

Des champs de lavande mauve et bleu à perte de vue et comme c’était la saison de la récolte l’air était plein d’une odeur douce et pure.

Mauve and blue lavender fields as far as the eye can see and since it was harvesting time the air was filled with the sweet and pure smell of the lavender.

Wir haben gefühlt tausend Mal angehalten um in den Lavendelfeldern herumzuspazieren.

Nous nous sommes arrêtée une multitude de fois pour nous balader dans les champs.

We stopped like a thousand times to walk around the lavender fields.

Da es schon recht spät in der Lavendelsaison war, (Informationen zu den Erntezeiten in den einzelnen Regionen findet man hier) haben wir uns Richtung Apt, Sault und Banon aufgemacht, da dort die Ernte später als in anderen Regionen stattfindet.

Comme il était déjà un peu tard dans la saison de la lavande (vérifiez les différentes saisons de la récolte de la lavande ici) on a pris la route vers Apt, Sault et Banon car dans cette région la récolte se fait plus tard.

As we were a little late in the lavender season (you can check the time of the lavender harvest of the different regions here) we headed towards Apt, Sault and Banon where the lavender harvest takes place later than in most lavender regions.

Und wir hatten Glück. Der Lavendel war in dieser Gegend immer noch in voller Blüte. Dieses malerische Dorf ist Aurel.

Nous étions chanceuses car la lavande était encore fleurie. Ce village pittoresque se nomme Aurel.

And we were lucky the lavender in this region was still in full bloom. This pitoresque little village is called Aurel.

Die Lavendel Bauern haben uns erzählt, dass sie sich Sorgen machen über die Kosten die im Zusammenhang mit den EU REACH Verordnung. Lavendelöl ist unter dieser Verordnung als Chemikalie eingestuft und das bringt Registrierungs-, Klassifizierungs- und Kennzeichnungspflichten mit sich. Weitere Informationen hierüber finden sich hier und dort. Eine Petition zur Untererstützung der Lavendelbauern kann man hier unterzeichnen.

Les fermiers nous ont dit qu’ils étaient inquiets de la montée du coût d’exploitation résultant de la directive REACH de la UE. Selon cette directive l’essence de la lavande est classée comme un produit chimique obligeant les producteurs à enregistrer, classifier et labelliser leur produit d’un manière spécifique. Vous pouvez trouvez plus d’informations ici ou là. Une pétition pour aider les producteurs de lavande peut être signée ici.

We talked to lavender farmers who told us that they were worried about the costs arising out of the compliance with EU REACH regulations. Under these regulations lavender oil is classified as a chemical involving registration, classification and labelling obligations. You can find more information here and there. Perfektes Tauchwetter! Das erinnert mich an etwas was Gaston Bachelard mal gesagt hat:

“Zuerst ist das Nichts, dann tiefes nichts und schließlich blaue Tiefe.”

Des conditionnes parfaites pour aller plongée aujourd’hui. Ca me rappelle a quelque chose qui Gaston Bachelard a dit un jour:

“D’abord il n’y a rien. Ensuite il y a un rien profond puis un profondeur bleu.”

Perfect conditions to go diving today! Makes me think of something Gaston Bachelard once said:

“First, there is nothing, then there is a deep nothing; then a blue depth.”

How to blend in language-wise!

Ich musste sehr lachen, als ich dieses Video gesehen habe. Wenn Du so tun willst als ob Du französisch bist würde ich vorschlagen die Wörter “truc” und “machin” beim Französischsprechen zu verwenden. Das Englische Äquivalent ist vielleicht “stuff”. “Machin” wird verwendet wenn etwas nicht identifiziert werden kann oder man einen Namen vergessen hat.

Regarder cette vidéo m’a fait sourire. Si tu veux faire semblant d’être français, je recommande vivement d’intégrer les mots “truc” et “machin” dans ton langage parlé. L’équivalent anglais serai peut-être le mot “stuff”. On peut tout dire avec “truc” et “machin”. Machin est plutôt utilisé quand on arrive pas à identifier un truc ou quand on a oublié un nom.

Tu veut manger un truc?
On va faire un truc?
On va voir, Claire, Marie et machin.
Je ne me souviens plus de machin chose.
On va aller à la plage, on va se baigner, boire un verre, machin…

Watching this video made me laugh. If you want to pretend that you are French I highly recommend incorporating the words “truc” and “machin” in your spoken language. It is a bit like the English word “stuff”. It says all and nothing. “Machin” is rather used if you cannot identy something or have forgotten a name.

Catch of the day! Rotzunge – Limande – Lemon Sole

Letzen Freitag hatten wir leckeren Fisch zum Mittag in Llangrannog in West Wales. Der Fang des Tages im örtlichen Pub (The Ship Inn) war Rotzunge und die war köstlich. Die Rotzunge kam in Krabbenbutter mit einem frischen Salat und neuen Kartoffeln. Lecker, lecker, lecker.

Vendredi dernier nous avons eu un plat de poisson très savoureux à Llangrannog dans l’ouest du Pays de Galles. Le poisson du jour au pub local (The Ship Inn) était une limande et c’était absolument délicieux. La limande était accompagnée avec du beurre de crevettes, une salade fraîche et des patates nouvelles. Miam miam miam.

Last Friday we had the most mouth-watering seafood lunch in Llangrannog in West Wales. The catch of the day of the local pub (The Ship Inn) was lemon sole and it was absolutely delicious. The lemon sole came with shrimp butter, a fresh salad and new potatoes. Yum yum yum.

Obwohl es in strömen regnete haben wir nach dem Mittagessen noch einen kleinen Spaziergang die Steilküste entlang gemacht. Ich war froh, dass ich meine Gummistiefel an hatte.

Bien qu’il a plu des cordes pendant toute la journée nous avons fait une petite ballade à travers les falaises après le déjeuner. J’étais si heureuse d’avoir mis mes bottes.

Even though it was raining cats and dogs all day we went for a little hike along the cliffs after lunch. I was so glad that I had brought my wellies.

Les Calanques

Vor ein paar Tagen habe ich mit einer Freundin eine superschöne Wanderung in die Calanque de Port Pin gemacht. Die Calanques sind ein Massiv aus weißem Kalkstein welches Marseille und Cassis miteinander verbindet. Ein Paradies für Naturliebhaber mit unglaublichen kleinen Buchten und atemberaubenden Ausblicken.

Il y quelques jours une amie et moi on a fait une randonnée merveilleuse vers la calanque de Port Pin. Les Calanques c’est un massif constitué de calcaire blanc, lequel rejoint Cassis et Marseille. C’est un petit paradis pour ceux qui aiment la nature qui a des petites baies magnifiques et des vues formidables.

A couple of days ago a friend and me went on a beautiful hike to the Calanque de Port Pin. The Calanques are a huge limestone massif which connects Cassis and Marseille. It is an absolute paradise for nature lovers and has the most incredible little bays and amazing views.

Wir haben unsere Wanderung in der Calanque Port Miou (die Calanque am nähesten von Cassis) begonnen und die hübsch angeordneten Segelboote bewundert. Das Wasser war kristallklar und so einladend, dass ich zu unserem Ziel geschwommen wäre, hätte ich bereits meinen Wickelfisch gehabt…

On a commencé la randonnée dans la calanque de Port Miou (la calanque le plus proche de Cassis) et on a admiré l’ordre mignon des petits bateaux. L’eau était clair comme du cristal et elle était si accueillante que si j’avais eu mon poisson qui flotte avec moi j’aurais nagé vers notre destination…

We started our hike in the Calanque of Port Miou (closest to Cassis) and admired the lovely array of little sailing boats. The water was crystal clear and looked so welcoming that if I would have had my swim fish with me I would have swum to our destination…

Die Ausblicke unterwegs waren atemberaubend.

Les vues pendant la randonnée étaient incroyables.

The views on the hike were breathtaking.

Nach ca. einer Stunde wandern sind wir in der Calanque de Port Pin angekommen und haben uns sofort ins kühle Nass gestürzt. Danach haben wir den Nachmittag im Schatten gefaulenzt.

Im Sommer ist der Zugang zu den Calanques teilweise aufgrund der großen Feuergefahr beschränkt. Ob die Calanques begehbar sind, können Sie hier oder hier erfragen.

Apres à peu prés une heure de randonnée nous sommes arrivées dans la calanque de Port Pin et nous avons plongé direct dans l’eau turquoise. Le reste de l’après-midi nous avons lézardé à l’ombre.
Pendant l’été l’accès aux Calanques peut être limité à cause du risque de feux. Vous pouvez trouver des informations concernant l’accessibilité des Calanques ici ou là.

After approximately one hour of walking we arrived in the Calanque de Port Pin and plunged immediately into the turquoise water. The rest of the afternoon we lazed around in the shade.
